Wombarra Cable Cars - Another Nail In The Coffin Of the Escarpment In The Name Of Eco-Tourism
Do we really want these in Wombarra?
Yet again the Escarpment in the Northern Suburbs is under threat of vandalism with another development proposal.
Last year saw the the sale of 49 acres of land behind Morrison Avenue with planning granted for eco tourism cabins and ( of course ) the Manager's residence set in pride of place. The only way to circumvent the planning restrictions and build a big house high on the Escarpment was in the name of eco tourism, so guess what.
Now, after about a year of accepting landfill from everywhere, the property on pit road, Wombarra, is now the intended location of another eco business idea - cable cars up to the top of the Escarpment. Never mind the total inaccesibilty of the location, the instability of the old mining land or the blot on the horizon, think of the money to be made. Someone surely is.
This would be the same entrepreneur who received a $20,000 grant from the council to restore a historic feature on the Escarpment and pocketed it.
This would be the same entrepreneur who illegally built two two-storey cabins on the proposed cable car site ( for eco tourism of course ).
This would be the same entrepreneur who built a big house in the guise a combined manager's residence and training facility ( again to circumvent planning regulations ) on the site of the proposed cable car site.
This would be the same entrepreneur who volunteered a building site on the proposed cable car site for a 30m Telstra mobile mast, in return for a lucrative remuneration package from Telstra. |
